Meet Ellen Meisner, PT, Social Media Committee Member

Member Spotlight, Research & Knowledge,

Introducing the people behind #JWHPT. Meet Ellen Meisner, one of our social media committee contributors (Based in New Richmond, WI).

WHAT IS YOUR PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND?

My background is in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I am now less than a month away from graduating from Mayo Clinic’s physical therapy program in Rochester Minnesota! I have really enjoyed all physical therapy settings that I have been exposed to as a student, and I hope to incorporate pelvic health into a job opportunity in the future.

WHY DO YOU CHOOSE TO VOLUNTEER WITH JWHPT?

Pelvic health has been an enigma for many, including me. During my time in PT school, I noticed a wide discrepancy in the amount of information that was presented about the pelvis versus other body regions. This helped me recognize the need for not only more awareness of information related to pelvic health, but also more accessible information. The Academy had recognized this need as well, so I was very excited to be part of a platform that helps shed light on pelvic health related subjects!

HOW ARE YOU ADAPTING DURING THIS GLOBAL HEALTH CRISIS?

The pandemic has blessed me with the gift of more free time. With my clinical rotation put on hold, I have more time to do non-PT related activities that I enjoy such as baking, running, reading, and spending more (video) quality time with family and friends. Studying for the NPTE has kept me engaged in the physical therapy world, and I look forward to the day I no longer have to say “student” before “Physical Therapist.”
