This vital volunteer leadership role requires active engagement in Board of Directors meetings, House of Delegates activities, and strategic decision-making to advance the Academy’s mission. Responsibilities include serving on the Board of Directors as a non-voting member, attending key House of Delegate events, facilitating communication among delegates, mentoring incoming delegates, and contributing to Academy reports and updates. Travel reimbursement for the APTA House of Delegates is provided per the annual budget.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities
- Execute all Board of Directors Shared Duties in addition to the position-specific duties listed below
- Serve on the Executive Committee and appoint volunteers to committees and task forces
Meetings
- Board Meetings
- Actively attend and engage in monthly Board meetings
- Contribute agenda topics for Board meetings and provide supplemental files
- Review meeting minutes, proposals, consent, and business agendas prior to each meeting
- Attend bi-annual or annual 2-3 day strategic retreats
- Submit, review, discuss, and vote on Board proposals
- Conduct meetings using Robert’s Rules of Order (parliamentary order)
- Promote unity and collaboration on the Board while promoting healthy debates and discussion
- Other Meetings
- Attend Executive Committee Meetings (if scheduled)
- Attend the Annual Membership Meeting Meeting
House of Delegates
- Attend all House of Delegates activities/meetings, prior to and during House of Delegates.
- Complete all required reports by the deadlines
- Collaborate with delegates and the Board of Directors to achieve the strategic goals of APTA Pelvic Health
- Report updates from the House of Delegates to the Board and provide additional updates to Academy staff for membership communication
Communication
- Communicate weekly via Slack to contribute to discussions and vote electronically
- Build and strengthen relationships with officers, directors, volunteers, members, staff through regular communication
- Orient and meet with incoming delegates
Reporting
- Contribute to the annual State of the Academy PowerPoint presentation
- Provide updates regarding House of Delegate matters to the Board of Directors
Travel
- The Chief Delegate will be reimbursed for qualified travel, per diem, and registration expenses for select meetings contingent on the annual budget
Time Commitment
Times listed below may fluctuate depending on changing business priorities and the urgency of critical board discussions and votes that must take place.
- Electronic Communication: 8-10 hours/month
- House of Delegate Meetings: Up to 5 days of in-person meetings per year with additional days of preparation time. Must be able to attend the APTA House of Delegates Meeting July 11-15, 2025 in Washington, D.C.
- Select Board Meetings: Frequency is determined by the Board of Directors at the beginning of each year. The Board may meet monthly or every other month depending on the needs of the Board.
- Monthly Zoom Meetings: 1-2 hours/month to engage with fellow delegates.
- Annual In-Person Retreats: 3-4 days
- Read and comment on meeting materials: 1 day
Eligibility
- Must be a Physical Therapist member of APTA and APTA Pelvic Health.
Qualifications & Desired Skills
- Ability to maintain active membership in good standing throughout the entire volunteer term
- Past experience in House of Delegates, either as a delegate or alternate delegate for any component (a minimum of 1-2 years preferred)
- Cannot be an active independent contractor contracted with APTA Pelvic Health or a direct competitor during the term of service according to Conflict of Interest policy
- Networking skills
- Leadership, motivational, and mentoring skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Prior role in Academy board or committee leadership (desired)
- Previous volunteer experience within APTA Pelvic Health (required)
- Familiarity and experience with parliamentary procedures or Robert’s Rules of Order
- Passion and positive attitude about teamwork, pelvic health, adaptability, flexibility, and innovation
- Good listening and decision-making skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate easily and positively with others
- Fast keyboarding skills with ability to listen and take minutes simultaneously
- Good time management, record-keeping, and organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multitask
- Strong problem-solving and mediation skills when sensitive situations arise within the Academy
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENT
- Highly Preferred: Be an Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy member for at least 2 consecutive, uninterrupted years without membership lapses immediately preceding the appointment.

FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
- This is an unpaid volunteer service position. However, expense reimbursement will be provided for select meeting attendance based on the Academy's annual budget.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
- This is a volunteer service role that requires attendance at the APTA House of Delegates. Reimbursement for associated expenses will be provided in accordance with the annual budget. Must be able to attend the APTA House of Delegates Meeting July 11-15, 2025 in Washington, D.C.
