My Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Journey

Posted By: Alex Lea Orr Member Spotlight,

I first started getting interested into pelvic floor physical therapy during my 2nd year of school when we had a semester long class on pelvic health. My professor who taught the course was a local practicing physical therapist and also taught in our pro bono clinic at my university.  It was her who initially ignited my interest because she was so passionate about educating us about pelvic health and how we could really change the lives of women. Soon after that I completed the level 1 pelvic floor course and absolutely loved the class and all the new information I learned. I then did a clinical rotation with a physical therapist who treated not only women, but men and children with pelvic floor dysfunctions. I was skeptical at first because I didn’t know how much I would like treating men or children.  I soon found out that I enjoyed it and saw how much it changed both patients’ and their families' lives with the education and treatment we could provide them. I love the pelvic health physical therapy world and just how much it can make huge changes in people’s lives. I am excited to continue my journey in the pelvic health world and excited to make those connections with future colleagues and patients!
