Meet the SSIG Member | Featuring Haley Robb, SPT

Posted By: Haley G. Robb Member Spotlight,

Welcome to the 8th ‘Meet the SSIG Members!’ The Student Special Interest Group is made up of student PTs and student PTAs from across the country – and we want to highlight them and their passion for the profession! ‘Meet the SSIG Members’ has the purpose of connecting students interested in pelvic and women’s health by introducing them to one another and our community through the APTA Pelvic Health Student Special Interest Group. We would like this engagement to promote personal development, networking, and friendship opportunities.

Name/Year in School/Program Name:

Haley Robb/Second year/Mercer University Doctor of Physical Therapy

Why are you interested in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy?

I love Pelvic Health PT because it is an incredibly special area of practice that emphasizes meaningful connections between therapists and patients. I am excited about empowering and educating patients about their own bodies. I also think this section of physical therapy has so much potential for growth and I hope to be a part of the continued advocacy for this section and these patients.

What are you most excited for your upcoming Pelvic Health Clinical Rotation OR what did you love most about your Pelvic Health Clinical Rotation?

I am so excited to be able to work with these patients! I am looking forward to gaining more hands-on experience and learning as much as possible. I can’t wait to learn how to complete a full pelvic health assessment and learn about the many different types of dysfunctions/disorders and their treatments.

Why do you believe it is important to be an active member of the SSIG and/or what have you gotten out of being a member of the SSIG?

I have found the SSIG to be an incredible and easily accessible resource for pelvic health education and advocacy. The recorded meetings and free journal articles are super helpful for busy students. It’s also amazing to be able to connect with other students who want to practice in this setting.

Any advice you might like to share for students looking to get involved in Pelvic Health Physical Therapy?

I would say the most important thing is to ask LOTS of questions and don’t be afraid to reach out to Pelvic Health PTs. A lot of programs don’t talk about Pelvic Health in the curriculum, so it can be challenging to become involved. Join the Pelvic Health Academy and SSIG, take a course or two, follow Pelvic Health Instagram accounts, and try and complete a clinical rotation or shadowing experience during your time in PT school!

What do you love to do outside of PT school?

My favorite things to do outside of school are lake weekends with my family, exploring Atlanta with my friends, going for walks outside, and cooking any and every pasta dish known to man.
