FPTR Postdoctoral Fellowship Relaunching in 2025

The Foundation for Physical Therapy Research (FPTR) is excited to announce the relaunch of its Postdoctoral Fellowship in February 2025! The application opening date will be confirmed in the coming weeks, but here’s what applicants need to know in advance.

Fellowship Highlights

• 12-month fellowship period
• $75,000 award, now fully aligned with NIH fellowships
• Funding supports 100% dedication to research and training
• One fellowship will be awarded by May 2025

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

• Be an APTA member
• Hold a U.S. physical therapist or physical therapist assistant license
• Have the right to work in the U.S. for the fellowship duration
• Be committed to a career in physical therapy-related research
• Hold an academic doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) earned within the past two years from a CAPTE-accredited institution
• Be employed at a sponsoring institution with a designated mentor
• Commit 100% of their time to research and training during the fellowship

Research Areas

Fellows will engage in research and training that enhances their expertise and contributes to their development as leading physical therapy researchers. Their research may:

• Expand upon their doctoral work with additional training
• Explore a new area distinct from their doctoral research
• Align with one or more APTA Research Agenda priorities
