Job Overview

  • Reports to: Executive Director
  • Time Availability: Primary work hours during standard business hours in Eastern Standard Time (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST), evening meetings, and occasional weekends.
  • Travel Requirements: Occasional travel is required for activities such as meeting with staff and the Board of Directors and attending select educational-related events.
  • Role Summary: Perform course mapping across Certificate of Achievement in Physical Therapy (CAPP) courses. Oversee curriculum design, development, and implementation of CAPP courses. Oversee CAPP contributors (e.g., workgroups, peer reviewers, editors) and tasks/task workflow.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a course map, including course descriptions and objectives, that spans all courses within all CAPP series (Pelvic and OB). Coordinates shared pieces within and between series, with consideration for consistency of content/messaging and for intentional repetition and prevention of unnecessary/unintentional overlap. Ensure course materials are clinically relevant and up-to-date with evidence, standardized terminology, and the Academy's position statements and guidelines.
  • Ensure that course design and implementation reflect current teaching practices and serve our course participants’ needs. This may include exploring new technology, reviewing course evaluations and other participant feedback, ensuring that the learning environment is inclusive and positive, etc.
  • Submit an annual budget for CAPP development-related activities and any significant curriculum changes that have financial implications to the ED/Board (e.g., number of course hours, resource requests). Uphold fiduciary responsibility, balanced with optimal course development and delivery.
  • Submit proposal requests as needed for Board approval for changes in defined procedures, descriptions of workgroups / CAPP contributors (e.g., peer reviewers, editors), or any other significant change in process, structure, or workflow.
  • Submit quarterly reports and other requested reports to the Board and Executive Director.
  • On a regular basis, gather data and input from current/ongoing CAPP contributors (instructors, teaching assistants, CAPP chairs/committee members, case reviewers, etc.), participants (course surveys, written or verbal feedback), and any other pertinent stakeholders to guide development/maintenance of course mapping and its outflow of the overall process and products of the CAPP courses. Strategize how to enhance the current CAPP programs and develop new CAPP offerings to ensure external stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Develop the guidelines, standards, and the plan for developing, updating, or revising modules or groups of modules, including the prioritization and breakdown of tasks and project timelines for the workgroups, peer reviewers, editorial committee, and Copy Editor and Medical Illustrator. Monitor progress, evaluate work performance, and establish action plans, if needed, to ensure work is completed in a timely fashion.
  • Annually (or on an established timeline) determine the number and tasks of various workgroups (e.g., module creation/updating, presentation creation/updating, test item writing, other course content material development).
  • Review, vet, and recommend work group members, peer reviewers, and editorial committee member applications for final board approval. Maintain records of volunteer activities, performance, and work products.
  • Oversee all workgroups and CAPP contributors. Maintain ongoing communication and meetings to effectively lead and guide all contributors, who will report directly to the EPM regarding their roles and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate communication with instructors and staff for course delivery and promotion,
  • Hold regular meetings with instructors and teaching assistants regarding course updates, changes in delivery, teaching expectations, etc.
  • Orient new instructors and teaching assistants to the overall CAPP process and expectations for instructing a course. Develop recommendations and materials for optimizing their teaching experience.
  • Address participant inquiries relayed from staff, providing expert guidance on clinical application questions or regarding new or collaborative course proposals.
  • Collaborate or consult with non-CAPP-related committee chairs at the discretion of the ED and Board.
  • Keep a record of time worked for purposes of annual contractor review of the job tasks and supportive needs (i.e., not a “timesheet” to determine pay).
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to ensure that CAPP courses are in line with Academy's strategic plan and goals.
  • The Education Project Manager may be required to teach 1-2 CAPP courses annually at the discretion of the Executive Director and Board of Directors. These duties are included in the salary and do not qualify for additional pay.
  • Perform other duties as determined by the Academy.

Job Qualifications

A. Knowledge

  • Ability to use or quickly learn teaching technology (such as Zoom, PowerPoint, learning management system)
  • Demonstrates knowledge in content design and development and learning strategies
  • Ability to interpret and apply research for clinically-relevant teaching purposes
  • Strong knowledge and clinical experience of current evidence-based practices, clinical guidelines, and research in the field of pelvic and peripartum health physical therapy

B. Experience

  • Current and active license to practice physical therapy
  • Clinical practice / ongoing caseload within the previous year
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in pelvic health/OB physical therapy
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in education / continuing education instruction in pelvic health/OB physical therapy
  • Experience in continuing education course development and course mapping (preferred)

C. Education, Certification, & Membership

  • Physical Therapy degree and license
  • Masters, Clinical Doctoral, or terminal degree
  • Formalized training in pelvic and perinatal physical therapy
  • Member of APTA and the Academy
  • CAPP program experience (highly preferred)
  • Board-Certified in Women’s Health Physical Therapy (highly preferred)

D. Skills Desired

  • Strong facilitation skills; ability to coordinate across groups within workflow

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to create a supporting/inclusive and innovative environment
  • Excellent time management and project coordination skills

E. Restrictions

  • Within the Academy, in order to avoid conflict of interest, may not serve concurrently on the Board of Directors or as an elected or appointed volunteer or independent contractor in educational-related activities, committees, work groups, or other educational-related positions.
  • Outside of the Academy, not serving in independent contractor roles with direct competitors for pelvic and/or OB physical therapy continuing education.
  • May present at external industry events (e.g. conferences) at the discretion of the Board.
  • May serve in external (to the Academy) volunteer and Board of Director roles at the discretion of the Board.

Organizational Structure

  • The EPM is an Academy employee, who will report to the Executive Director.
  • The EPM will oversee CAPP contributor volunteers within the context of course development, revision, and teaching methods. Volunteers include: Module workgroups (modules, PowerPoints, test item writing, other materials), Peer reviewers, CAPP Editors.
  • Independent contractors (instructors, teaching assistants) who are serving in a CAPP contributor volunteer role will report to the EPM for CAPP development activities. However, they will continue to report to the Executive Director and Senior Manager for IC-related activities (such as signing contracts and receiving course assignments).

Salary & Benefits
  • Annual Salary Range: $70,000-$84,000
