Research & Knowledge,

Survey Title: Board Certification in Pain Management Specialization

Open to: APTA Pelvic Health Members who are licensed PTs, PTs who have a PhD, and PTs who have earned the WCS.

Survey Deadline: October 31, 2022.

Have you developed clinical expertise in pain management? Are most of your patients coming to you because they have pain beyond just musculoskeletal pain?  If you treat pain, research pain, or educate about patients with pain, we are asking for your help. We are in the process of determining the need for Board Certification in Pain Management to and developing a comprehensive description of specialty practice in Pain Management.

Our conceptual description of a Pain Management Clinical Specialist is a physical therapist who utilizes a person-centered approach to provide care within the biopsychosocial model and who can manage diverse populations presenting with various pain classifications and etiologies.  If this description sounds like your practice, we do hope that you will be able to help us by completing an important survey.

Since pain crosses all specialty areas, your help is crucial to make sure we identify key aspects of pain management practice across the different specialties.  Our goal is to create a comprehensive, representative Description of Pain Management Specialty Practice as we move toward ABPTS specialty recognition.

We anticipate that this survey may take up to 75 minutes of your time to complete. Time is likely your most valuable commodity so we realize we are asking a lot.  The good news is that you do not have to complete the survey all in one session. The survey will save your responses, so you can return to where you left off. However, your responses are saved using “cookies” so you will need to return to the survey using the same computer and the same browser.  We recommend that you use your computer to complete the survey instead of a phone or tablet.

If you don’t feel you are a specialist in pain management or are unable to participate at this time, please go to the survey and answer the first three questions.

Your anonymity as a survey respondent is protected in that survey data will only be reported in the aggregate, and your individual responses will never be linked to you.

If you have questions or concerns that something is missing, you can contact Derrick Sueki, Project Coordinator at dsueki@apu.edu, or Jean Bryan Coe, Project Consultant at jbryancoe@mindspring.com.
