In Memory of Academy Member, Kimberly Seymour

It is with great sadness, we share of Kimberly “Kim” Seymour’s recent passing. Kim has served in various roles in the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy, most notably her role in the Pregnancy & Postpartum Special Interest Group (PPSIG 2018-2021) and she was going to serve a consecutive term after being re-elected for 2022-2024. As a PPSIG Director, Kim strived to increase awareness about maternal health for all women of all races, cultures and ethnic backgrounds.

Kim has been a strong advocate for women who have little to no access to healthcare and promoted pregnancy and postpartum physical therapy as an essential component of maternal patient healthcare. Through her work and volunteer roles, Kim was dedicated to increasing other providers’ awareness of physical therapy’s role in maternal care. Kimberly helped host webinars along with writing and developing evidence-based handouts and guides for pregnant and postpartum patients. Her creativity, drive, passion and friendly spirit has touched her fellow Academy members, fellow PPSIG Directors and many others.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Kim’s husband, two daughters and the rest of her family. Kim will be greatly missed by all at the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. She has been a great friend, colleague, volunteer and dedicated leader.

“I remember Kim from the OB coursework. She was always asking questions and so eager to learn. She and her husband and daughter, kindly gave me a ride home from the airport when we both returned from CSM in 2019. It was a fun ride home. We stopped to pick up some organic bread in North Portland. We later had the chance to work together on some postpartum educational materials. She was such a great team member and so easy to work with. I will miss her. She will be missed. “I met Kim in Portland, OR and had the pleasure of working with her before and during her pregnancy of her beautiful baby girl. Even through major vomiting, preparing a house to be sold, preparing to move to San Diego, she always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude.
