In Memory of Academy Member, Kimberly Seymour

Member Spotlight,

It is with great sadness, we share of Kimberly “Kim” Seymour’s recent passing. Kim has served in various roles in the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy, most notably her role in the Pregnancy & Postpartum Special Interest Group (PPSIG 2018-2021) and she was going to serve a consecutive term after being re-elected for 2022-2024. As a PPSIG Director, Kim strived to increase awareness about maternal health for all women of all races, cultures and ethnic backgrounds.

Kim has been a strong advocate for women who have little to no access to healthcare and promoted pregnancy and postpartum physical therapy as an essential component of maternal patient healthcare. Through her work and volunteer roles, Kim was dedicated to increasing other providers’ awareness of physical therapy’s role in maternal care. Kimberly helped host webinars along with writing and developing evidence-based handouts and guides for pregnant and postpartum patients. Her creativity, drive, passion and friendly spirit has touched her fellow Academy members, fellow PPSIG Directors and many others.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Kim’s husband, two daughters and the rest of her family. Kim will be greatly missed by all at the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. She has been a great friend, colleague, volunteer and dedicated leader.

In an effort to highlight our memories of Kim, we’ve created a virtual guestbook where members of the public, Kim’s colleagues, fellow volunteers and Academy members can leave a message for Kim’s family. Send a Message Here.

If you wish to leave a message for Kim’s family, please submit your comment or message below. The Academy will relay all received messages commemorating Kimberly Seymour by September 30, 2021.

“I was blessed to know Kim as we served on the PPSIG Board together. She was an amazing mom to 2 sweet girl, an awesome wife who loved her husband lots and a huge advocate for PT, in particular for maternal health. I was shocked and saddened by her passing. She will be missed. I hope I can take some of her strength and passion to advocate for maternal health on her behalf.” – Stacey Head

“I knew Kim from both our time at Pacific together as well as through her involvement with the pelvic health PT community. She was a beautiful and caring person and a terrific PT. My thoughts and prayers are with her family. She was such a special person. I will miss her.” – Megan Roos

“I remember Kim from the OB coursework. She was always asking questions and so eager to learn. She and her husband and daughter, kindly gave me a ride home from the airport when we both returned from CSM in 2019. It was a fun ride home. We stopped to pick up some organic bread in North Portland. We later had the chance to work together on some postpartum educational materials. She was such a great team member and so easy to work with. I will miss her. She will be missed. My condolences to you, her loving family, may you keep her memory alive in your hearts.” – Sandi Gallagher

“My sincerest condolences to Kim’s family. I did not have the opportunity to meet Kim personally; however, from reading of her passion for women’s and pelvic health advocacy, as well as passion for life itself, I can see how impactful she was and will continue to be to those who were fortunate enough to know her. Keeping all of her family and friends in my thoughts and prayers.” – K.M.

“I met Kim in Portland, OR and had the pleasure of working with her before and during her pregnancy of her beautiful baby girl. Even through major vomiting, preparing a house to be sold, preparing to move to San Diego, she always had a smile on her face and a positive attitude. She pushed me to be a better clinician as we discussed and worked through PT stuff. I am so shocked to hear of her passing and I send my most sincere condolences to her husband and her beautiful kids.” – Beatriz Sunderland-White
