The Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy (APTA Pelvic Health) has opened a call for nominations for the Pregnancy & Postpartum Special Interest group Director position in order to hold a special election in October 2021. We invite eligible members to nominate fellow members or themselves for this position. Please stay tuned for additional announcements and notices regarding this special election in the coming week.

PPSIG Director Election

Special Interest Group: Pregnancy & Postpartum (PPSIG) – The PPSIG’s purpose is to provide a means by which Academy members having a common interest in the evaluation, treatment, and wellness of pregnant and postpartum women may meet, confer, and promote these interests via discussion forums and outreach through education, clinical practice, and research.
Position Title: Director
Volunteer Term: February 2022-February 2024 (2 years with opportunity to run in future elections for 1 consecutive term)
Nomination Period: From September 1, 2021 until 11:59pm ET, September 25, 2021
Election Period: From October 1, 2021 until 11:59pm ET, October 31, 2021
Take Oath of Office: February 4, 2022

PPSIG Responsibilities | View Detailed Charter

  • Promote the SIG, Academy membership and relevant Academy events, opportunities and benefits
  • Increase and diversify educational resources for physical therapy professionals and the public
  • Encourage exchange of information relevant to the physical therapy profession and the respective special interest topics
  • Coordinate activities and campaigns to increase member and community engagement
  • Connect and engage with current and prospective members
  • Carry out the initiatives and projects as outlined by the Academy Board, mission and strategic plan
  • Complete delegated assigned projects and initiatives
  • Report to the Academy Vice President regarding key updates
  • Attend monthly meeting with the SIG
  • Record and read meeting minutes
  • Submit quarterly volunteer reports to the Board Liaison

Director Role

At the beginning of the year and/or term, the SIG will meet and discuss and designate specific Director position by the following 4 key themes:

  • Director: The Director shall be responsible for preparing agendas for and presiding at all SIG and Board meetings;
    shall report biannually to the SIG membership; and report to the Component in accordance with the policies and
    bylaws of the Component. The Director will serve as the Liaison to all other SIG Executive Committees.
  • Director: The Director shall oversee SIG committees or task forces. The Director shall submit an annual report of
    SIG activities, and membership information to the Component annually
  • Director: The Director shall work with the Component Nominating Committee to conduct the election of SIG
    officers; be responsible for keeping the minutes of all SIG and Board meetings; notify SIG members of the date,
    time, and place of SIG meetings; maintain the SIG’s archives and correspondence; and make SIG’s minutes and
    rules and regulations available to the membership.
  • Director: The Director shall be responsible for developing and proposing to the Executive Committee the SIG’s
    annual budget plans, that are subject to Component approval in the Component’s budget. The Director shall
    coordinate with the Component Board Liaison all spending proposals, requests, and activation of finance items
    from the Component’s budget.

Qualification Requirements

  • The candidate must be an active Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Physical Therapist or Physical Therapist Assistant member for at least 2 consecutive years immediately preceding the election.
  • Desire to increase awareness, patient education and collaboration in pregnancy and postpartum physical therapy

For integrity purposes, all voting has been conducted using SimplyVoting, a third-party voting platform that will automatically tally votes. If you are a 2021 election candidate, please stay tuned for an email or phone call from the Academy Nominating Committee to let you know whether you have been elected.

Eligibility to Vote

There will be ONE (1) voting poll for PT/PTA members in good standing of the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy. Per the Academy Bylaw, SPTs are not eligible to vote in PPSIG elections. You must have a valid and active Academy membership by 11:59pm ET, September 28, 2021 to vote October 1, 2021-October 31, 2021. Please remember to update/renew your membership if it will expire soon. On October 1, 2021, all eligible voters will receive an email from hello@aptapelvichealth.org and SimplyVoting to cast their votes via the secure 3rd-party platform.
