Personal Statement

“I am a current student and work as a research assistant in a lab studying low back pain. I also volunteer with the Journal of Women’s Health Physical Therapy (JWHPT) to promote the journal on social media platforms and am looking forward to pursuing women’s health and men’s pelvic health after graduation next year.

As a student member of the Academy of Pelvic Health, I am extremely passionate about advocating for pelvic health physical therapy and promoting student involvement within the Academy and the APTA. I believe that students play an important role in the future of the profession and that it is imperative for students to feel informed and supported in their decisions to pursue pelvic health.

As a student SIG director, I would have the chance to collaborate with other students and professionals to create opportunities for students to learn about pelvic health and connect with each other. I am particularly interested in increasing students’ awareness of what pelvic health physical therapists can do and how to get involved in the Academy as a student. I believe the interest in pelvic health is growing, especially among students, so it is important that the Academy and the SSIG create a community that encourages students to pursue those interests and provides them with the resources to do so. I have almost a year of experience volunteering with the JWHPT, I communicate well with others and I have several ideas on how to increase student engagement, which I think would be valuable to the role of student SIG director.”
