9:15am -10:15am | Early Screening to Optimize Women’s Cardiac Health

Heart disease is a silent killer in women affecting one in five over age 50, and responsible for more deaths than all forms of cancer combined. More often than not, women succumb to heart attacks or strokes without any previous knowledge or diagnosis of pre-existing cardiac disease. Physical therapists are in a position to save lives and quality of life by recognizing that all women have significant increased risk for developing cardiac disease after menopause. Early screening for risk factors and education on lifestyle modifications may reduce a woman’s future risk for developing cardiac disease as much as 80%. The purpose of this webinar is to provide an understanding of the prevalence of heart disease in women along with simple screening tools to guide the therapist in developing a quality program that includes appropriate intervention for promoting women’s cardiac health and wellness.

At the end of this session, the participant will be able to:
1. Understand the importance of incorporating heart health intervention for women
2. Identify appropriate screening tools for women’s cardiac health
3. Utilization of screening results to develop appropriate intervention for the female client
4. Identify when to refer to other healthcare specialists for cardiac disease-prevention and wellness
