We are seeking two (2) Past Presidents of the Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy to join the Past President’s Advisory Committee. This committee will provide strategic advice, feedback, historical perspective, recommendations, and counsel to the APHPT Board of Directors on issues relevant to nominations, succession planning and governance as requested. The Committee will bring unique knowledge and skills to deliver data-driven recommendations and/or provide key information and materials to the Board of Directors that aim to fulfill the APHPT mission.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Advisory Committee does not have formal authority to govern the organization nor can it issue directives. The Committee will: 

  • Consult, advise and provide historical perspective and mentoring to the Nominating Committee regarding recommendations for office for APHPT including characteristics for office and succession planning; 
  • Provide objective historical perspective and guidance to the Board of Directors when requested;
  • Operate under a charter and review annually to set committee focus and recommend any necessary changes for approval to the Board;
  • Accomplish additional tasks as charged by the Board of Directors as it relates to advising Nominating Committee on leadership recruitment, nominations and governance.

Meetings: The Advisory Committee will meet at least biannually, with additional meetings to occur as deemed necessary. The Advisory Committee shall report its activities and recommendations to the APHPT Board of Directors on an annual basis.

Structure:  The Past President’s Advisory Committee shall consist of up to three (3) appointed members, all past Presidents of the Academy, who have agreed to serve on the Advisory Committee. Members will serve three-year terms, with no member allowed to serve more than two consecutive terms. However, to establish staggered rotations on and off the committee, initial terms will vary:

Initial Transition (2022)

  • One (1) member will be appointed to a 1-year term, eligible to be appointed to a second term of 3 years
    • Immediate Past President will be appointed to 1-year term (2022-2023)
  • One (1) member will be appointed to a 2-year term, eligible to be appointed to a second term of 3 years
    • Executive Committee appoints a Past President (2022-2024)
  • One (1) member will be appointed to a 3-year term, eligible to be appointed to a second term of 3 years
    • Executive Committee appoints a Past President (2022-2025)

The committee will elect a chair, provided to the APHPT Board of Directors for approval.  After being away from the Committee for 3 years, a past President may be appointed again for another term.  

Eligibility: Members of the Committee will be recruited through an invitation sent to Past Presidents to apply for appointment based upon the following criterion:

  • Must be a current APHPT member
  • Must be a past APTA Pelvic Health President
  • Contributions demonstrated during President role
  • Expertise and insight the Board needs on the committee

Terms:  Members will serve three-year terms, with no member allowed to serve more than two consecutive terms inclusive of the Chair position.  However, to establish staggered rotations on and off the Committee, initial terms will vary: one member will be appointed to a one-year term, up to two members will be appointed to two-year terms, and up to 2 members will be appointed to 3 year terms. The Committee will elect a chair, who will schedule and lead its meetings.
