Katelyn Hickey, SPT, CPT, WFS | Candidate for SSIG Director (2021-2022)

Based in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

After PT school, I envision myself becoming a pelvic floor physical therapist, being a dedicated advocate for my patients and community, as well being a part of true change regarding awareness of pelvic health physical therapy. I believe that there is always room for improvement and being active in educating and providing for the community is a great way to be working towards it. Being involved in Academy of Pelvic Health Physical Therapy definitely won’t end with college for me – I see it as a valuable part of my future career.

The academy provides so many beneficial resources for people seeking physical therapy, and for students interested in pelvic health. I would love to have the opportunity to help lead the academy of pelvic health SSIG even more towards the student population. It is always a rare and exciting occurrence to meet a classmate who is also interested in pelvic health. I have strong intuition that lack of awareness is a large contributing factor to this low level of interest. I want to start involving PT programs near me with events hosted by the academy of Pelvic Health, and possibly even host Q&As, information sessions, and other events that could open the doors of pelvic health physical therapy for more students. Specifically, I think it would be extremely beneficial to contact PT programs as a SSIG board and suggest ways their courses can incorporate or touch on pelvic health to allow more exposure to students. This is the direction I see the academy of pelvic health going, and I hope I get to be a part of it!
